Tad Taylor's Healthy Homes LL C
Healthy Hotel and Motels

We here at Tad Taylor's Healthy Homes travel a lot to do our business. We always miss the clean mountain air we have here in our high altitude ski country retreat. Unfortunately most of the time, we rent rooms at motels or hotels and we're not able to stay in them because they are so smelly and toxic!!! We usually wake up feeling beat-  with our bodies drained of energy and the ability to focus, or sleep out in the van in the parking lot. Dust and dust mites, mold and mildew, fragrant detergents and toxic cleaning solutions lead the list of an endless number of  common house hold items that have so many toxics in them, a good nights rest is out of the question. Sad to say, this is common fare at hotels all over the country.

We are surprised that very few in hotel management are committed enough to take responsibility for providing a healthy nights rest! One would think they would have a real interest and take great pride in creating an environment that was restful for all their clients. Solid repeat business and word of mouth praise relative to the owners care for their clients would become their calling card. What higher standard could you ask for?
Going the extra mile to create this kind of environment does take time and costs more money, but there are simple things that can be done that cost nothing. If the environment is fairly clean, scented items need not be required. Unscented soaps and detergents could be used, or at least offered in certain sections. Flooring could be tile or wood, which in reality, is a better investment over time. All types of organic fabrics are available, and ventilation systems, including air conditioners could be cleaned occasionally. [ uncleaned air conditioners and heater are a huge problem. I always take these apart and am stunned that they are choked with debris and usually filled with mold. Not only does this create a smelly unhealthy room, but it uses much more energy. The cost of taking care of these pieces of equipment would be saved in energy and other cleaning costs to reduce odors!]

Tad Taylor's Healthy Homes has created standards for healthy homes and hotels that have been years in the making. These standards are actually quite simple and cost effective to achieve, but knowing what to do is the trick.

Our technical people here at Tad Taylor's Healthy Homes have the solution for creating a healthy environment, and it should even save money in the long run! By taking all our data relative to the areas that are affecting air quality, we have a plan of action that will address all areas of low level contamination and immediately change environments to a more healthy atmosphere.

THE PLAN

Tad Taylor's Healthy Homes has a three step plan to ensure a thorough transformation.

1. Our technicians inspect the entire site, including each room and the maintenance services for materials and conditions that are unfavorable.

2. Tad Taylor's Healthy Homes then specifies changes and improvements, both immediate and long term that will improve air quality to the highest level possible. This is reviewed with management to come up with the most favorable method of dealing with their priorities within budget requirements.

3. We then present our plan, which can include our specially trained staff to instruct and demonstrate activities and options for  you.

Tad Taylor's Healthy Homes maintenance plans set up site visitations to do routine specialty decontamination's, such as cleaning and disinfecting air conditioning and heating systems, cleaning and decontaminating ventilation systems, inspecting staff cleaning and service equipment, HVAC equipment, as well as monitoring building and internal air flow patterns that contribute to interior air contamination.

Our rating system is the Tad Taylor's Healthy Homes seal of approval, a universally recognized sign for excellent air quality.

Certainly many problems, short and long term, can be eliminated in the design phase of any building project. No building is more susceptible to problems that  affect health than commercial buildings. Proper design and material choice can have a huge impact. In the design phase, all the priorities can be reached, including budget restrictions. Healthy buildings do not have to
cost a ton  more than "regular" buildings. They must be designed and planned well from the start. There are hundreds of options for materials and methods that can save money in the initial building phase, and from there on in.

WINDHAM GARDEN HOTEL, 3454 Forbes Ave Pittsburgh Pa.,  Dec 1999
Entered by Tad Taylor

This hotel is a top drawer hotel where we rented several rooms for a three day conference- but it smells very badly in the individual rooms and all over, halls, lobby etc. of  toxic cleaners, etc.. The heaters in the rooms have not been cleaned ever, so the place, besides the scented soaps etc have mold and spores at a high level. I slept outside in the parking lot next to a
laundry!!
5 thumbs south

MYSTIC, CONN. none we've found
I've slept in the parking lots of Howard Johnson's, Mystic Inn, Days Inn, and The Residents Inn. I have stayed at the RESIDENTS INN repeatedly, which has had a room or two that were smelly but somewhat tolerable. I would not recommend this without reservations for most, but has a great pool and hot tub!

NEW LONDON, CT.  none of the motels here have had good rooms, including the Howard Johnson, the DAYS INN,
